Tiedowns are structural elements used to anchor an object to the ground. Tiedowns are typically installed to allow structures to resist uplift forces, such as wind blowing against the structure or pressure being applied upward from the ground below.
Similar to tiebacks, tiedowns consist of steel rods or wires installed into small diameter drilled shafts. These tiedowns are given an applied tensile strength comparable to the structure that they are built to keep rooted to the ground.
